 2008 CRUISER RULES

Rule change in red and underlined 

  1. CARS

Any passenger car

Left side driver controls steering and brake

Right side driver controls the throttle

No hand throttle

Minimum 110” wheelbase

No emergency brake left in car

 

  1. ROLL CAGE

Four point roll cage is mandatory

Front and rear hoops optional.  Front hoop must connect to frame in front of upper A arm. Cannot pass thru the front grill area OR connect to the front bumper!! This is not a green flag for rough driving!  The BLACK flag will be used in this class.

Door brace is mandatory

Driver and passenger sides MUST have AT LEAST 3 door bars and padding.

All bars must be completely welded

All cages must pass inspection

If inspectors don’t think it is safe, YOU WILL NOT RACE.

All bars must have padding in driver’s and throttle man’s areas.

 

  1. DRIVERS’ EQUIPMENT AND APPAREL

Both drivers must have helmet, safety belts, and shoulder harnesses over each shoulder

5-point harness is mandatory.  Not over three years old and in good condition.

Both drivers MUST wear full fire suits (top and bottom) and Snell rated helmet – no cracks.

Motorcycle helmets are allowed, M-rated, full face only.

Fire extinguisher mounted within driver’s reach is required and in working order.

Racing gloves, neck braces, and window nets are mandatory.

At least 3 safety bars must be installed in front of driver in windshield opening.

Kill switch must be installed within driver’s reach and be clearly marked ON and OFF.

 

  1. RACING SEATS

Racing seats REQUIRED.

 

  1. BODIES

All glass, trim, mirrors, etc. must be removed.  (If it can be easily knocked off, remove it).

 

  1. MODIFICATIONS

No modifications to body, suspension, or engine.

Engine must pull 15” of vacuum at 1200RPM.

No aftermarket ignition must be OEM, including internal coils and components.

No iron radiator or bumper reinforcements.

Bracing may only be used to hold parts in original position after crashes.

No aftermarket suspension parts allowed.

Hood pins may not be attached to frame.

No lowering blocks or spring spacers allowed.

 

  1. CARBURETOR

1 inch spacer or adapter OK

Any single accelerator pump carb, vacuum secondary OK

Mandatory cast iron intake and cast iron exhaust manifolds.

 

  1. STEERING

Must remain stock. No quickeners.

 

 

  1. WHEELS, TIRES, BRAKES

Wheels MUST be steel, 8” max.  Any street legal tire, highway tread, no mud or all-terrain, or any used IMCA Hoosier tire.

No beadlocks

Recommended ½ inch studs with heavy lug nuts.

Must have all lugs on all wheels.

No cross grooving tires

At least 3 tires must have minimum of 30 pounds air pressure at the end of the race.

Must have 4 working brakes at all times.  NO TOLERANCE.

STREET tires MUST fit in 9” fork measured sidewall to sidewall.

If you have a flat, you will be BLACK FLAGGED off of the track – NO EXCEPTIONS!

 

 

  1. REARENDS

Must be stock type only

Locked rear ends OK

Official’s rules are final!

 

  1. NUMBERS

Cars must have numbers on both sides and top of car and must be at least 20 inches in height and 4” in width.

Number MUST be legible.  You may be asked to modify your numbers so that they are legible for scoring purposes.

Maximum of three digit numbers, MUST be visible.

 

  1. BUMPERS

All bumpers must be attached to frame by 2 chains.

Radiator protect bars may be no wider than the frame rails and no higher than the front of the hood.

They may be attached only to bumper itself and the pipe may be no larger than 2 inches in diameter.

 

  1. FIRE EXTINGUISHER

All cars MUST have a fire extinguisher in working order and within driver’s reach.

 

  1. FUEL CELLS

Fuels Cells are recommended.

Tanks must have cover made out of metal.

Fuel cell or stock tank in trunk only.

 

  1. Officials can alter rules as they see fit for the betterment of racing.  Changes will be announced at driver’s meeting prior to event.

 

  1. WEIGHT

CANNOT add weight to cars

 

  1. DRIVESHAFT

Must be painted white and have front loop at front part of driveline.

¼” material 2” wide and no farther back than 6”.

Must be steel

 

  1. MUST BE SAME DRIVER AND GAS MAN OR NEW REGISTRATION WILL BE REQUIRED.

 

  1. CLAIMING REQUIREMENTS

1ST Night – NO CLAIM, 2nd Night – If you were here 1st night then you may claim, If you were not here first night then you will have to wait 2 consecutive nights of racing before you are eligible to claim.

 

  1. The race direction may be either direction as determined by track management

 

  1. Heat races will be lined up by draw.

 

  1. The races are run with green for racing allowed, white for one lap remaining and checkered for finish of the race.  The red flag will come out if the track is blocked, a rollover, or a fire.  When red comes out, all cars must stop immediately without passing any more cars.  Officials will send you around to line up; telling you what position you are to line up in.  You will be told once and if you do not get in that position, you will NOT be scored.  Yellow flags are thrown only at the flagman’s discretion.  In the event of a yellow flag, lineup will be from the last scored lap.  Anyone passing during yellow will be penalized 4 positions at end of race for each car passed.  A black flag is a disqualification from the race.  Anyone not obeying a black flag will be suspended for a minimum of 2 weeks.

 

  1. Cruiser cars finishing in positions 1 through 4 are subject to claim on complete car less seat belts, fuel cells, and racing seats.  Claim price for complete car will be $550.  Claim may be made by anyone in the Cruiser A Main that finishes the race.  Track retains $50 on all attempted claims, valid or invalid.  When claims are opened, there will be 5 minutes to line up at official with the car you want to claim.  Claiming person must have $550 cash in hand.  Claim money MUST be in an envelope with name and car number on it and must be handed to official.  If multiple claims are made for the same car, car finishing farthest back, but not being lapped by 4th place car, will win claim option.  Claimed team has the option of $500 or trade for claimer’s car.  Others will receive $500 back.  Claimed driver will receive $500 in addition to money won.  No team can claim again until team has been claimed themselves.  Any driver refusing a claim will receive a suspension for the car and drivers for the next two cruiser racing events.  They will lose all points for the season as well as all right to claim for the season.  A second refusal will result in a twelve-month suspension for the drivers.  Promoter may claim any car at any time for $500.  The car claimed must be ran by claimers at next regular race or they will lose all points for the season as well as sitting out the rest of the season.

 

  1. Any driver caught using the throttle will receive a one (1) year suspension.

 

  1. Anyone involved in physical contact (fighting) will be banned from Hutchinson Raceway Park.  Hutchinson Raceway Park can fine any team for verbal attacks of any official.

 

  1. It is the obligation of each participant to insure that his/her conduct and equipment comply with all applicable rules and regulations.  Anything not addressed in these rules shall be considered NOT ALLOWED unless approved by officials prior to race date.  Ask first if unsure.  Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials.  Their decision is final.  Track Scale and test equipment are final.

 

DISCLAIMER:  The rules and/or regulations set forth herein are designed to provide for the orderly conduct of racing events and to establish minimum acceptable requirements for such events.  These rules shall govern the condition of all events, and by participating in these events, all participants are deemed to have complied with these rules.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY ORF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM PUBLICATION OF OR COMPLIANCE WITH THESE RULES AND/OR REGULATIONS.  They are intended as a guide for the conduct of the sport and are in no way a guarantee against injury or death to a participant, spectator, or official.  The race director shall be empowered to permit minor deviation from any of the specifications herein or impose any further restrictions that in his opinion do not alter the minimum acceptable requirements.  NO EXPRESSED OR IMPLIED WARRANTY OF SAFETY SHALL RESULT FROM SUCH ALTERATION OF SPECIFICATIONS.  Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials.  THEIR DECISION IS FINAL!
