2008 HORNET RULES
Released:  12-27-07

1.  BODIES
 
Approved stock bodied and stock appearing compact cars and trucks only
All doors must be welded shut
Trunk lids and hoods must be safety pinned for easy removal
All upholstery, glass, chrome or loose items must be removed
Car must have full factory floor pan and fire wall
Firewall must have holes covered
No fiberglass or aluminum body parts unless originally equipped
 
RUST RULE:  The builder may reinforce rusted floor boards, or any area of the car that rust may affect safety.  Use plated metal bolted or welded over or under the rust.
 
Mini pickups may be used.  Tailgates must be welded shut.  Floors must remain in beds.  Beds can be enclosed at top level of beds.
 
NO convertibles, station wagons, or jeeps
 
 
2.  ROLL CAGE:
 
Four point roll cage is mandatory
1-1/2 diameter .095 wall with gussets as needed, welded to (4) 4 x 4 plate, bolted to the floor
Roof bars may not reinforce the body or frame to alter the geometry of the car or to increase performance capabilities but only to serve as a safety feature.
All cages must pass inspection
If inspectors don't think it is safe, YOU WILL NOT RACE.
All bars must have padding in driver's area
 
3.  DRIVER'S EQUIPMENT AND APPAREL:
 
Driver must have helmet, safety belts, and shoulder harnesses over each shoulder
5 point harness is mandatory.  Not over three years old and in good condition.
Driver MUST wear full fire suit (top and bottom) and Snell rated helmet, free of cracks
Fire extinguisher mounted within driver's reach is required and in working order
Racing gloves, neck brace, and window nets are mandatory
At least 3 safety bars must be installed in front of driver in windshield opening
Kill switch must be installed within driver's reach and be clearly marked "ON and OFF"
 
4.  RACING SEATS:
 
Aluminum racing seat mandatory.  Must be padded and bolted to frame and roll cage.
 
5.  ENGINES:
 
Three (3) or four (4) cylinder engines only.
Maximum 151 cubic inch
No rotary or turbo engines
Headers are ok
 
6.  SUSPENSION:
 
Stock OEM parts only.
No racing shocks
 
7.  CARBURETOR:
 
Stock carburetor
Fuel injection permitted if car came originally equipped as fuel injection
If equipped with fuel pump, pump is wired through oil pressure switch
If vehicle is not equipped with a switch, it MUST be added
Two (2) throttle return spring mandatory mounted to engine
 
8.  STEERING:
 
Stock steering for the make and model
Quick release style ok
Steering box must remain in stock location
Quickner optional
 
9.  WHEELS, TIRES, BRAKES:
 
Wheels must be steel.  NO bead locks.
Wheel spacers are not permitted
Any DOT street legal tire, highway tread, no mud or all-terrain, or any used IMCA Hoosier tire.
9" sidewall to sidewall, max.
recommended 1/2 inch studs with heavy lug nuts
Must have all lugs on all wheels
No cross grooving tires
Stock brake system for make and model
Must have 4 working brakes at all times.  NO TOLERANCE
No break shut off valves
STREET tire must fit in 9" fork, measured sidewall to sidewall
 
10.  REARNED, TRANSMISSION, CLUTCH, FLYWHEEL:
 
Any stock transmission for make and model
Stock unaltered rear end for that make and model
Clutch pedal must remain stock for make and model
Official's rules are final!!
 
11.  NUMBERS:
 
Cars must have numbers on both sides and top of car
Must be at least 20 inches in height and 4 inches thickness
Number MUST be legible.  You may be asked to modify your numbers so that they are legible for scoring purposes.
Maximum of three digit numbers and must be visible
Recommended numbers on left fron and right rear
All number shall be in contrast by color of body
Duplicate numbers will have to be changed or modified so track officials will have no problems in identification
 
12.  BUMPERS:
 
Complete OEM bumpers only with optional reinforcement behind bumper
Bumpers must have ends securely tied to body, full width of bumpers
 
13.  FIRE EXTINGUISHER:
 
All cars MUST have a fire extinguisher in working order and within driver's reach
 
14.  FUEL TANKS:
 
Must be inside of trunk with screw or lock type caps
Must be set in steel box with safety straps, and secured tightly
Fuell cell recommended
 
15.  OFFICIALS CAN ALTER RULES AS THEY SEE FIT FOR THE BETTERMENT OF RACING.  CHANGES WILL BE ANNOUNCED AT DRIVER'S MEETING PRIOR TO EVENT.
 
16.  WEIGHT:
 
Minimum 1800 lbs. with driver after race
Any added weight must be painted white and have car number on it
Any weight added must be SECURELY BOLTED to chassis with two 1/2" bolts
HRP scales are FINAL!!
 
17.  MIRRORS:
 
No mirrors allowed
 
18.  RADIATORS:
 
Must be in stock location
 
19.  HEAT RACES WILL BE LINED UP BY DRAW.
 
20.  The races are run with green for racing allowed, white for one lap remaining and checkered for finish of the race.  The red flag will come out if the track is blocked, a roll-over, or a fire.  When red comes out, all cars must stop immediately without passing any more cars.  Officials will send you around to line up, telling you what position you are to line up in.   You will be told once and if you do not get in that position, you will not be scored.  Yellow flags are thrown only at the flagman's discretion.  In the event of a yellow flag, lineup will be from the last scored lap.  Anyone passing during yellow will be penalized 4 positions at end of race for each car passed.  A black flag is a disqualification from the race.  Anyone not obeying a black flag will be suspended for a minimum of 2 weeks.
 
21.  Anyone involved in physical contact (fighting) will be banned from Hutchinson Raceway Park.  Hutchinson Raceway Park can fine any team for verbal attacks of any offical.
 
22.  It is the obligation of each participant to insure that his/her conduct and equipment comply with all applicable rules and regulations.  Anything not addressed in these rules shall be considered NOT ALLOWED unless approved by officials prior to race date.  Ask first, if unsure.  Any interpretation or deviation of these rules is left to the discretion of the officials.  Their decision is final.  Track scale and test equipment are final.
